Pieter d'Hont was one of the most important Dutch sculptors of the 20th century. He served as the unofficial city sculptor of Utrecht and created many sculptures for the city, including the statue of Anne Frank on the Janskerkhof, where flowers are still laid daily.
Other well-known public works by him include the tympanum of the Utrecht City Hall, the large sculpture of a mouflon at the Dutch Central Bank, and the small statue of his wife, Sylvie, located on the Amstel river opposite the Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.
In addition, he created numerous portraits of various prominent Dutch figures.
